Have you ever wondered what life was like during the Reformation? This book gives a glimpse into the world of Tyndale from the perspective of a young lady. Anne was tutored by him along with her cousins at Sodbury Hall. From her country home, she chronicles the exciting events of England's break with the Roman Church. She goes from being a frivolous young lady to a devoted Christian because of the words found in the Bible. This book will inspire you as you learn of the sacrifices that were made to give the Word of God to the English speaking people. This is historical fiction at its best.

Excerpt from the Book
One of the laundry maids in Sir Thomas More’s household, a pretty, modest girl, drew my attention by the deep sadness always visible in her countenance. One day when she was busy in my room, I ventured to take out my little Testament for a few moments reading. When she perceived what I was reading, she dropped the work she had in her hand, and coming up to me said with tears in her eyes, “Ah, mistress, if you read that book, I am sure you are good, and will feel some pity for me, alone as I am in the world.”

“What is it, Joan, that troubles you?” I inquired. “In what way can I help or comfort you?”

“Unfortunately,” she replied, “it is little indeed that anyone can do to ease sorrows like mine, but you look kind, and I think I may trust you. After hearing my story, you will no longer wonder at the sadness that weighs upon me.”

Review:
“The Maiden of Sodbury Hall is an inspiring read. It is an impacting page-turner that made me appreciate the power of God’s Word, and it’s role throughout history.”

History Is Not Boring!

What is history anyway? It is the story of real people who did real things. For history to be fun for everyone (even those who think they hate history), it must go beyond hard facts and meaningless dates to the real people who made the significant events happen. People like George Washington, who bravely crossed the partly frozen Delaware River to attack the British at Trenton. Stories like that of the bold Americans who bravely fought against the Barbary pirates during the little-known Barbary War show how interesting history is.

This book covers:

Christ Bearer: Christopher Columbus
Settling the New World
The Lost Colony of Roanoke
The Pilgrims’ Legacy
The Great Awakening
The French and Indian War: The Struggle for Mastery of North America
Freedom Founded
Crossing the Delaware: Turning Point of the Revolution
The Making of a Republic: The Story of the Constitution
To Kentucky and Beyond: America Begins the Push Westward
To the Shores of Tripoli: The Barbary Coast Wars
The Lewis & Clark Expedition
Miracle at New Orleans
The Second Great Awakening
Daniel Webster: Defender of the Constitution
The Mexican War: America Expands in the Southwest
The Oregon Trail: Road to the American Promised Land
The Pony Express: Uniting the East and West
A Tale of Two Generals: Biographies of General Lee and General Grant
The Spanish American War
The Klondike Gold Rush
The Great War: America in the First World War
The Legacy of Alvin York: American Hero of the First World War
The Great Depression
The Navajo Code Talkers

True History Is Exciting!

Here are some of the stories in this book:

Discover how the U.S. created the Constitution

Experience the miraculous victory at the Battle of New Orleans

Explore America’s expansion west

Uncover one of America’s best weapons used during World War II

This book is great for:

History Buffs

Those who want the story behind the event

Adults who want a snapshot view of American history

Homeschool families, either as a read aloud or for students 12 and up

In this 184 page book you will meet some of America’s most famous people like George Washington and some of her not so famous people like Daniel Webster. Click here to see the table of contents. There are also four bonus chapters! The first bonus chapter is about famous mothers and the next three are about famous explorers.

Bonus Chapters:

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle: Mothers Who Changed the World Through Their Children

Medieval Explorer: Marco Polo

Evangelistic Explorer: David Livingstone

Daring Explorer of Antarctica: Robert Falcon Scott

What others are saying about Uncover Exciting History

“Amy Puetz always finds the ‘story’ to tell about her person or event in history.” -Dr. Ruth Beechick

“How did a pirate help Americans win the Battle of New Orleans? How did a conscientious objector capture 132 Germans? Who developed a code language that was never broken during WWII?
“Story-telling is the greatest way to excite people about history, and Amy Puetz loves to tell stories. With vocabulary suited to middle-grade children, the whole family will enjoy Uncover Exciting History as they gather ’round for family reading time. Each six-page story closes with Digging Deeper, a selection of discussion questions and project ideas to personalize the story. Period photos and maps enhance the book even more. Uncover Exciting History is a great resource for Christian families and those who yearn to see God’s hand behind American history.”
-Marcia Washburn Building Tomorrow’s Generation at marciawashburn.com

“Amy Puetz has a gift for history. Avoiding the dryness of excessive detail, Amy brings out the essence of other times and distant places, taking us along on the journey to meet famous generals, intrepid explorers, and common, everyday people who made their mark on our world. This collection of sketches isn’t meant to be an in-depth study of world history. Instead, you’ll find the collection a great way to introduce the reluctant historian in your family to the excitement and drama of the past. Short enough to be read easily and quickly, yet informative enough to give your kids a good overview of historical events, these narratives are the perfect way to whet your children’s appetites for learning about history. Even better, they’re written from a Christian perspective, giving your children an appreciation for God’s providential hand in world history. Highly recommended!”

An Inspiring Thirteen-Week Virtue Study Celebrating the Noble Deeds of Women and Girls from History

“Who can find a virtuous woman?” the book of Proverbs asks, and then it goes on to describe what a virtuous woman looks like. The Proverbs 31 woman is kind, wise, dependable, generous, compassionate, industrious, dedicated, and loving. Down through the ages, many noble-hearted women and girls have lived up to the standard of a virtuous woman as described in Proverbs. This book is full of them.

Two Books in One!

This book is both a Bible study and a collection of stories about historical women and girls. Each chapter has a story about a righteous lady from the past, and then a study that digs into God’s Word concerning the virtues demonstrated in the story. In this book, girls ages eight and up will meet servant-minded women like Mary Slessor, who worked for Christ as a missionary in Africa. Kindhearted women like Florence Nightingale, who served the sick. And truth-seeking women like Katherine von Bora Luther, who boldly left a convent to follow Christ. Well-known historical women are accompanied by the stories of some lesser-known virtuous women who also impacted history. This thirteen-week study features five daily lessons that could be used as a home study or for a Sunday school class. It would also be a great study for moms and daughters to do together!

A Book about Feminine, Courageous, and Devoted Heroines!

Here are some comments from mom’s just list you.

“I really appreciate the study. I think it is wonderful.” Jackie S.

“You are a wonderful historian. Thank you for pulling out these pieces of history that I’ve not heard of before (a real crowd pleaser was Princess Edith–my boys liked the knights and chivalry). Keep up what you are doing!” Jody B.

“Thank you for offering this study It is fun and interesting. I like the way you put the Bible study together with the history stories.” Shalee

“Thank you for putting these together. They have been a wonderful encouragement to me and my daughters. Thank you again.” Sharon H.

“Thank you so much for the Bible study! My daughters and I really enjoy it.” Sharon L.

About the Author
Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832. She was an imaginative child who loved to make up stories. During the American Civil War she served as a nurse. In 1863 she wrote about her experiences in Hospital Sketches. Her real success came a few years later with the publication of Little Women in 1868. From that time until her death in 1888 she continued to write books for children.

“Miss Alcott has a faculty of entering into the lives and feelings of children that is conspicuously wanting in most writers who address them.” ~Mrs. Sarah J. Hale, author of Mary Had a Little Lamb

“A book superior to Little Women! Louisa May Alcott was a rare author who truly made the lives of children come to life. This is one of her rare treasures that needs to be discovered by a whole new generation of boys and girls.” ~ Amy Puetz Fox, author of Uncover Exciting History
